History

After nine years as an apprentice (including seven to one of Kent's leading antique furniture restorers and upholsterers, since retired), I established my own business in 1988.

Approach

For many years I focussed exclusively on antique furniture reupholstery, specialising in the traditional "stuff and stitch" technique (examples of which you can see in my Gallery).  I very much enjoy working on such pieces but I am equally proficient with, and enjoy working on, more modern furniture (the seat frames pictured under Our Services being an example of the preparation for such work).  It is accepted wisdom that, whilst modern manufacturing techniques are extraordinarily efficient, the economies applied to certain parts of the manufacturing process of some modern furnture have led to serious declines in longevity.  I have had many clients come to me with pieces which are only a few years old but with similar aging to that seen in antique pieces that have not been reuphostered for decades.  I enjoy bringing such pieces "back to life" for many more years of enjoyment than they were originally manufactured for, just as much as I do the traditional pieces.
